As optimistic as you can be about the cornerback room, it’s easy to feel the exact opposite when evaluating the safeties. Much of that uncertainty stems from the number of unknowns surrounding the position. The safety group has the potential to emerge as one of the defense’s bright spots, but unlike cornerback, that outcome is far from guaranteed. The cornerbacks appear to have a strong foundation with a blend of proven returning talent and two impact transfers expected to make an immediate difference. If the safeties can exceed expectations and provide consistent play on the back end, it would significantly elevate the overall ceiling of this defense and turn an already promising unit into one with the potential to be among the conference’s best.
