They say there is no place like home, and for former Marist defensive back Nate Robinson, that is certainly true. After spending the last two seasons with the Red Foxes, the San Antonio Warren product committed to the UTSA Roadrunners on January 8.
“Being from San Antonio made them the leading choice upon my entry into the portal. Coming home was such an excellent opportunity for me, and the thought of being able to go home and help lead my hometown team to plenty of wins, and hopefully a conference championship, was too great to pass up, “ Robinson said. “Although I took an awesome detour to New York for the past two years, I am glad God brought me back home to be a Roadrunner.”
He had an incredible 2025 season at Marist. He finished with 64 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and four interceptions in 12 games. He received multiple honors for his play and was named an FCS All-American by Pro Football Network (second team), StatsPerform (third team), Phil Steele (fourth team), and the Associated Press (honorable mention).
“This past year at Marist was awesome! I became the youngest team captain in school history and was one of the core leaders of the team. The season came with its ups and downs, but after going 1-10 the year before, finishing 5-7 was a massive accomplishment for us, and I grew exponentially as a player this past year. and received All-American honors for my achievements on the field.”
Being from San Antonio, Robinson had heard plenty of great things about UTSA, and he was able to see that firsthand when he took his official visit on January 2. He took a liking to the coaching staff and everything about the Roadrunners, and quickly realized it was the place to be and call home.
“My official visit to UTSA was great! I went with my mom because I value having a second set of eyes on my potential future home, and I didn’t take long to realize this would become my home. The staff was great, the facilities were second to none, and it was a great feeling to see how excited the staff was about me becoming a Roadrunner.
Being from San Antonio, I had always heard from afar how great the staff at UTSA was, but my expectations were surpassed as I got to know them personally. Before my commitment, each staff member reached out to assure me that San Antonio is where I belong, and expressed their confidence that getting more guys like me would help win more games. Winning is precisely what I want to do, and I know with this coaching staff that’s leading us, I can place my faith in them going above and beyond to put us in the position to succeed.”
Meeting with head coach Jeff Traylor on his visit was one of the highlights for Robinson, as he was able to see what makes the Roadrunner program what it is.
“I spoke with Coach Traylor numerous times before and after my commitment, and enjoyed each time. I looked at my conversations with him as a strong indication of the leadership UTSA has. Although he has extreme trust in his coaching staff to recruit and find players who fit the mold of a Roadrunner, he makes sure to meet with and talk to recruits, making it clear how valuable they are to him. It makes sense that his time at UTSA has led him to become one of the most successful coaches in that period. The culture is built on a foundation so strong that, although the portal may cause some change, the culture is built to withstand it, no matter who is in the building.”
Robinson adds to the Roadrunners transfer portal class that is currently ranked sixth in the American Conference, according to 247Sports.
