A colleague asked me just the other day, what has UTSA Baseball done in 2025?
Great question Mr. Co Worker. Great question indeed. Would you like the short answer or long version?
Short, he says.
Bullets? I reply.
You know it, he responds.
You see, in my line of work, bullet point highlights are one of the most versatile tools in the shed. Kind of like a reliable bullpen if you will. Its use is critical to achieve the goal of winning ballgames, or, in this case, prove UTSA Baseball’s legitimacy to an interested party with limited knowledge on the subject at hand. And we do so, with depth and weight as outlined below.
- Win at then-ranked #14 Texas AM 7-4 in College Station
- Win at then-ranked #20, and popular CWS pick, Dallas Baptist 15-11
- Win at then-ranked #8 Texas 8-7 at Disch-Falk Field in Austin
- Destruction of Tulane, winning by 22 runs in seven innings
- And most recently, a rival series win over San Marcos, which is always nice
You guys beat A&M and Texas?! The surprised colleague went on to say with tremendous surprise.
“That is impressive, impressive indeed! I had no idea UTSA Baseball was doing things like this!”
Again, another UTSA Athletics program doing more with far less than most conference mates, and for the most part, any squad on the 2025 schedule.
With a month left to go in the regular season, UTSA sits at 33 wins and 10 losses, one of the best records in all of America.
They are unranked, while the team up in Austin now holds the number 1 National Ranking.
Meaning, UTSA is one of five teams nationwide to beat the number one ranked Division 1 college baseball team.
Strong resume, sure. Deserving of a top 25 national ranking? I would say so. Accomplishments to be proud of? Absolutely.
Regardless of what happens down the stretch of the season, can this season be considered a success? Should the fans, students, alumni and boosters be hopeful for a postseason run? Has UTSA Baseball already exceeded expectations for the 2025 ball club? Depends on who you ask I suppose.
All fair questions and conversation starters no doubt. The most intriguing question, however, is a little less loaded.
Does it really matter?
To Skipper Pat Hallmark and his ball club, I seriously doubt it. And for me, that is what I absolutely love about this 2025 UTSA Baseball team.
They live in the moment and are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied. They don t point to what has been done or complain about what they do not have. No one is crying about being snubbed from a top 25 ranking, bragging, or whining, about NIL deals or facilities. The lack of media coverage or recognition from college baseball pundits is an afterthought.
They just play ball. Good ole fashioned, hard, tough baseball. Plain and simple.
The Roadrunners aren’t flashy or cocky, nor are they nervous or afraid. There is a quiet confidence about this team that has not been present in other notable UTSA baseball teams throughout the years who contended for postseason births, or at least provided reason to think that they could.
There is, quite literally, zero hype surrounding this UTSA team. No one is paying attention to them. And this, is an absolutely fantastic thing in sports that tends to happen right before something incredible comes out of nowhere and rocks the sports universe.
This is as low under the proverbial radar as a team can fly folks, and if the Roadrunners keep things simple, stay hot and have a little bit of luck slide their way, there is no telling what an end of season Bullet Point Summary might look like.
Stay tuned, this could be legendary.
