Austin Lake Travis High School linebacker Braeden Lott has attended UTSA camps since junior high. Naturally, he became interested in — and a fan of — the program that head coach Jeff Traylor has built. That led to his commitment to the Roadrunners on October 4. Last weekend, Lott took his official visit to San Antonio.
“What led me to commit is that I love the UTSA program and the coaches there, “ Lott said. “I have been going to their camp since 8th grade, and they’ve shown me a lot of love and kept in touch with me. They are a program where I feel like I can really grow into the player I am meant to be.”
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Lott delivered an outstanding season for the Cavaliers, who finished 14-1 and reached the Texas Class 6A Division I state semi-finals before falling to eventual state champion Houston North Shore. He recorded 116 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hurries, six sacks, and two interceptions, earning All-District 26-6A First Team honors.
Receiving his offer from UTSA
Lott had offers from North Texas, Dartmouth, Texas State, UTEP, Sam Houston State, Ohio, and UTSA. He picked up his offer from the Roadrunners and linebackers coach Galen Scott last June after one of their summer camps, and has developed a great relationship with him.
“When I was offered by Coach Scott, it was in the summer after a camp. I tested well, ran a good 40, 5-10-5, etc., did well in drills, and I already had a connection with him prior to the camp. He let me know they liked me and wanted to offer me. Coach Scott and I have known each other for about two years now.
I’ve been going to UTSA camps since the 8th grade, and I made the switch to linebacker my sophomore year, so I’ve known him for a little bit now, and I’ve been able to build a relationship with him. He is a great dude and a great coach.”
Official visit
Lott took his official visit to the Alamo City on January 9, where he met and connected with the staff, especially assistant linebackers coach Jacob York.
“My official visit went well, I got to meet all the coaches and got to know them, and learn about the school a little. One of the big highlights was the food I ate, which was really good there. They took me to a lot of good food spots. Coach York was my host with the players on break. He drove my family and me around, took us around campus, and helped us a bunch.”
Lott also had a great meeting with Traylor, who let him know he was excited to have him on board.
“Coach Traylor is a great coach and a great guy as well, and you can tell he really cares about his players. He told me he’s excited for me and excited to get another Lake Travis athlete, and that I’m gonna have a chance to compete to earn a spot.”
Lott is rated as a three-star prospect by On3, 247Sports, and ESPN.
