13th Year Curse? UTSA’s Tumultuous 2024 Season

Number 13.

When I say number 13, what is the first thing that you think of?

Is it a Halloween classic flick named Friday the 13th?

Perhaps it’s the fun fact that most hotels do not have a 13th floor.

Maybe you immediately think unlucky when you hear 13, most people do.

Personally, all my mind sees is Dan Marino’s Dolphins teal jersey from the late 80’s.

Fire uniform, I know. Too bad Dan never won a Super Bowl. Do you know why? It’s because Dans jersey had number 13 on it.

The number 13 is bad folks. Bad luck, bad juju for everyone.

Not superstitious? Don’t believe in that “type” of voodoo?

Or maybe you straight up just don’t care and are wondering why we are talking about a stupid unlucky number.

It’s because UTSA Football is 13 years old this year.

And boy oh boy, I do not think that age and 2024 season record are a coincidence.

Neither are those three worst losses in program history. And don’t forget about an injured player list that looks like a Jason Voorhees head count at Camp Crystal Lake too. My goodness.

Perhaps the worst luck in the history of luck happened to the beloved, fan favorite All-Conference Wide Receiver after fighting his way back from a separate gruesome injury a couple of weeks back. God bless JT Clark.

A 49-point drumming in Austin, with the prequel being a 39-point beat down in San Marcos only to then lose to Rice and Tulsa in the most unimaginable ways imaginable.

All in a single season that isn’t done yet.

UTSA players in fist fights, penalties on penalties on penalties coupled with bone headed mistakes week after week.

All of this, and trust me, there is plenty more, in season number 13.

Could it be, that the Roadrunners demise in 2024 is as simple as a case of bad luck? A curse thrown down upon the 210 by a legendary unlucky number that latched onto UTSA Football seemingly unnoticed because of the 13th year.

That is for you to decide, but with chills running down my spine I think I have my answer.
